Client: HUG A MUG (Ewanrigg Local Trust and Maryport Health Services)

Brief: To assist with the set up, launch and ongoing promtion and development of HUG A MUG, a health and well-being signposting service attached to a local health centre.

Description: HUG A MUG is a free and friendly signposting and support service, located upstairs in Maryport Health Services.  HUG A MUG offers help and support with all sorts of things like health and well-being, housing, work, finance or family problems. HUG A MUG will listen to your concerns and help you to access support that is right for you.

Run in partnership with Maryport Health Services and Ewanrigg Local Trust, the facility is staffed by volunteers and has been created in response to the needs of the community. The service has been supported by local businesses.

I have worked with the team throughout the process and have provided full marketing and communications support, advising on brand development, PR, promotional materials, social media support, creation of an explainer animation and stakeholder liaison. I have also written several successful award entries for the inititave.

HUG A MUG won Best Community Initiative at the 2018 Community Heroes Awards, run by Newsquest. It was also voted Most Innovative Proactive Wellbeing Activity in the National Mental Health & Wellbeing Awards in 2020.

The project has been incredibly successful and celebrated its third birthday in October 2020. We create biannual infographics on statistics which can be found on the website (see link above). Past resuts are available upon request.

Due to COVID-19, the HUG A MUG service has been temporarly changed to a telephone only service. We are currently working on plans for a capital build project which will expand the HUG A MUG provision.

Client Testimonial:

Rachel has more communications expertise than anyone I have met previously. She understands our ethos, business and community and is able to fulfil our brief every time, exceeding expectations at every step. Rachel has worked with us from developing the HUG A MUG through to planning our first year birthday celebrations. She has advised on branding; sponsorship; funding; recruiting volunteers; marketing and PR. She has helped us to create a short animation which we love. She has even quite literally put the icing on the cake, bringing us a huge HUG A MUG branded cake when we opened. Rachel brings communication and business skills, expertise and objectivity to our team and work; her contribution is invaluable.
